« Soap in the water » filter

Lately, the filter I like to call « Soap in the water » is pretty famous. Try to put some soap on your bathtub, you’ll get a similar effect IRL. Or you could take the sun in picture too, your photo will have the same tone.

I found this guy’s article — probably a spanish, they particularly like this filter, it reminds them Barcelona — which was explaining how to apply this filter to your photos using Photoshop.

So I tried the trick and it works pretty well! Here are the steps:

  1. You create a new image, with the right proportions for your photo
  2. You copy/paste the photo, and you transform it (Ctrl + T) correctly.
  3. You create three new layers, filling them with three different colors in this order: #faabb0, #3e2b4e et #f6f694 (we’ll call those layers: pink, blue, et yellow)
  4. Change the opacity of the layers: 25% (pink), 100% (blue) et 50% (yellow)
  5. Change the type of layers: overlay(pink), exclusion (blue) et multiply (yellow)
  6. If you’re not totally satisfied, you can change the Fill parameter.

I made an example:

Then, you’ll just have to save the PSD and replace the original image with the one you want.
